    US rig count flat on 1931

    21 September 2014 – The cumulative number of oil and gas rigs drilling in the US this week was flat on 1931, according to data from Houston-based services giant Baker Hughes.

    A nine-unit gain in oil rigs was offset by an equal decline in gas rigs. There were a total of 1601 oil-directed rigs running by week’s end – 232 more than a week ago – and 329 gas rigs, off by 57 from this time last year.

    The Permian basin saw the biggest movement of rigs, losing six for 560. The Eagle Ford was up two for 205.

    US weekly offshore rig countTexas as a whole lost five rigs for a total of 900. New Mexico gained one for 99.

    Both North Dakota and the Williston basin as a while gained four rigs, for respective totals of 189 and 198.

    Oklahoma gained two rigs for 215.

    The Marcellus shale lost a pair of rigs for 81 and the Utica was flat on 44.

    Pennsylvania was flat on 58 and Ohio was flat on 42. West Virginia lost three for 26.

    California gained one for 46 and Alaska was flat on 10.

    The Gulf of Mexico lost four rigs for a total of 58.

    Canada lost 28 rigs for 377.
