    US rig count rises by one

    Tower Resources rig11 May 2014, News Wires -The number of oil and gas rigs drilling in the US rose by one this week for a total of 1855, according to data from Houston-based oilfield services outfit Baker Hughes.

    In what appears to be a largely uneventful week for rig moves, oil-directed rigs edged up one for a total of 1528 while gas rigs remained flat on 323.

    The oil rig count was 116 higher than a year ago, while the overall count for land rigs was 86 higher than this time last year.

    Offshore rigs moved up by five this week with 58 operating in the US Gulf of Mexico.

    The Permian basin continued to move up in the rig count, adding a pair of units for a total of 545. Texas gained three rigs overall to total 895 while New Mexico added one for 91.

    The Granite Wash in the Texas Panhandle gained three rigs for 64.

    The Eagle Ford was flat on 218.

    The Williston basin was off by a rig on 182. North Dakota lost two rigs statewide for 174.

    Wyoming was down four rigs to total 45 and Oklahoma was off by three on 192.

    The Mississippian gained a pair of rigs for 76. The Marcellus lost one for 84.

    Alaska gained one for 10.

    Canada lost 18 rigs to total 145, up 27 from a year ago.
