    08 December 2014 – The number of oil and gas rigs drilling in the US rose by three this week to a total of 1920, according to data from Houston-based oilfield services player Baker Hughes.

    The gains came entirely from oil-directed rigs, which added three units for a total of 1575. Gas rigs were flat on 344.

    The Granite Wash was the big gainer this week, adding four units for 63.

    However, Oklahoma and Texas each lost rigs, to the tune of three and five, respectively, for respective totals of 211 and 896.

    The Eagle Ford was down three on 206. The Permian basin gained two for 568. New Mexico gained one for an even 100.

    Kansas was the big gainer among states, adding five rigs for 26. Louisiana gained four for 114.

    North Dakota was flat on 180 while the Williston basin lost a pair for 189.

    The Utica was flat on 48, as was the Marcellus, on 82.

    Pennsylvania lost one rig for 55 and Ohio gained one for 45.

    Utah was flat on 23.

    California gained one for 43.

    Alaska and Arkansas each gained two for totals of 11 and 12, respectively.

    The Gulf of Mexico added four new rigs for a total of 56.

    Canada lost 16 rigs for 422.
