19 October 2013, Calabar — Mobile maritime training teams from the United States, the United Kingdom and The Netherlands are presently training 134 Nigerian soldiers and Naval personnel in Calabar.
The Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Joseph Omozuya Aikhomu made the disclosure while announcing the commencement of the Exercise African Winds 2013 at the headquarters of the ENC in Calabar.
Aikhomu who is the chairman of the planning committee for the African Partnership Station for the Exercise African Winds, Calabar Area said that 99 soldiers from Nigerian Army and 35 from the Nigerian Navy, including 19 foreign troops consisting of three from The Netherlands, 11 from UK and five from USA were undergoing the tactical amphibious training at the Nigerian Army Amphibious Training School.
He said the training is under the auspices of the USA African Partnership Station. According to him, Spanish maritime forces were already on their way for the exercise while Morocco, Senegal, Togo, Ghana and Benin are participating.
