    Vessels traffic rises to 684 in Onne seaport

    26 March 2018, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt — The Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA has announced that Onne seaport in Rivers State has witnessed improvements in vessels traffic handling from 662 vessels recorded in 2016 to 684 vessels in 2017.

    The Authority also disclosed that the gross tonnage at Onne seaport increased from 39 million metric tonnes recorded in 2016 to over 42 million metric tonnes in 2017.

    Speaking, the Port Manager of Onne seaport, Mr. Alhassan Ismaila Abubakar, said that in line with Presidential directives on the ‘Ease of Doing Business’, Onne port has recorded improvement in the area of service delivery to its operators, especially as it relates to doing business.

    Abubakar while speaking at a stakeholders’ forum in Onne Port, further disclosed that the Port has kept up with its corporate social responsibility to its host communities of Eleme and Ogu/Bolo Local Government Areas of the state.

    The port manager, however, called for cooperation and understanding among terminal operators at the port for higher productivity.

    According to him, “The gross tonnage at Onne port has increased from 39,887,311 metric tonnes in 2016 to 42,903,441 metric tonnes in 2017 showing that the port has appropriately aligned with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, PEBEC.

    “The port has commissioned six classroom blocks at Ikpokiri and a transformer project at Onne, while works are ongoing to complete a civic centre project and water project at Owogono in Ogu community.”
