Lagos — The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Engr Simbi Kesiye Wabote has admonished civil servants in Bayelsa State to use their positions to enhance transparency in the democratic processes, especially in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in the state.

He gave this advice while delivering His keynote address at the 2nd Annual Lecture/Award Night of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Bayelsa State Council held at the DSP Alamesigha Memorial Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa.

Speaking on the theme: The Role of Civil Servants Towards the Advancement of The Democratic Process in Nigeria: The 2023 Bayelsa Guber Election in Perspective, the Executive Secretary, who was represented by the Deputy Manager, Stakeholders Management, Engr Mofe Megbele emphasized the need for synergy between elected officials, political parties, and the civil service, stressing that such collaboration would ensure a free and fair electoral process.

This year’s annual lecture was geared towards creating awareness and sensitizing civil workers on the role they must play during the upcoming elections in Bayelsa State. It also provided an opportunity to appreciate and reward notable leaders in the Bayelsa State public service sector and other key areas of society.

The event featured the presentation of awards, one of which was the Distinguished Leadership Award conferred on the Engr. Simbi Wabote and the Outstanding Service Award conferred on the General Manager, Human Resources, NCDMB, Ms. Doris Opuwari.

Another key highlight of the event was the lecture by Professor Ambily Etekpe who recommended the restructuring of the country’s electoral process to ensure free and fair elections in every geopolitical zone. He canvassed that civil servants need not shy away from voting as long as they remain neutral during the process.
