…Accuses tanker drivers of dealing in adulterated and illegally-refined products
Mkpoikana Udoma 04 April 2017, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has said its operatives were not responsible for the strike by the Petrol Tanker Drivers arm of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG.
NUPENG had cited alleged extortion of tanker drivers by NSCDC operatives as one of the reasons for the nationwide strike the tanker drivers embarked on today.
But, Rivers State Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Chief Superintendent Akin Oguntuase, told our correspondent on telephone that the agency does not harass tanker drivers involved in legitimate business, but had issues with those involved in illegal bunkering and oil theft.
Oguntuase added that the job of the NSCDC is to ensure that adulterated and illegally-refined products do not get to the market.
