01 December 2016, Lagos – The Chairman, Seaport Terminal Operators’ Association of Nigeria, Dr. Vicky Haastrup, has said that the cordial relationship and understanding between terminal operators and dockworkers was responsible for the cessation of unrest and strife by dockworkers at the nation’s seaports.

She attributed the problem to lack of understanding on the part of the dockworkers, adding, “Now that they have knowledge, the kind of understanding that we have with them has been able to change their mindset and that is why you see the kind of progress that you see in the maritime sector, in the port operation today.

“In those days, dockworkers could just stop any ship. Now, they know that time is of essence to ships; they know that when they stop ships, the action costs Nigeria and shippers money. They now have that understanding.
