Port Harcourt — In a bid to alleviate transportation hardships during the festive season, the Nigerian Customs Service has announced the auction of 15,325 litres of seized Petroleum Motor Spirit, PMS.
The move was revealed by the National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, ACG Hussein Ejibunu, at the Customs Training College in Ikeja.
Ejibunu explained that the seized PMS, which includes 613 Jerrycans with a Duty Paid Value of N27,565,000, was confiscated by Customs operatives in the Lagos-Ogun axis as part of an ongoing operation targeting economic sabotage.
According to him, the operation, which began in May 2024, has successfully disrupted illegal PMS activities.
“As directed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, we are auctioning the seized product to the public at N10,000 per 25 litres. This step will help ease transportation challenges that tend to escalate during the yuletide season,” Ejibunu stated.
He further emphasized that all legal processes, including the court condemnation order, had been finalized by the office of the Legal Adviser, allowing for the public auction.
“The sale is expected to provide immediate relief to Nigerians, who may face higher fuel costs and transportation difficulties during the festive period.
“The CGC has urged operatives to continue their efforts to stamp out the activities of economic saboteurs across the country, ensuring that the benefits of such operations reach the general public.”
