13 November 2013, Port Harcourt — Chairman of the Federal Government Subsidy Re-Investment and Empower-ment Programme, SURE-P, Dr. Christopher Kolade, has said that the programme would be a total failure if it does not display “believable evidence” of benefits for Nigerians.

Kolade spoke in Nonwa, Rivers State during a road show to access SURE-P’s intervention value on the East-West Road.

He said: “This awareness is very critical because Nigerians have suffered from expecta-tions that had not always been met.”

Represented by Professor Kunle Wahab at the event, the SURE-P helmsman, said: “Even though Nigerians have lost confidence in the ability of the leadership to keep promi-ses, SURE-P is about keeping the promises government made to them despite their distrust.

“Should we fail at this point in winning back the confidence of Nigerians, our country will be on the brink. It is clear that the citizens are tired.

“That was why President Goodluck Jonathan stepped forward and took definite steps to keep the promises we made.”

Mr. Isaac Okah, Deputy Director, SURE-P Engineering Section, said through the programme’s intervention, 65km of a total 95km of Section III from Onne Junction, Rivers State, to Ette Junction, Akwa Ibom State, had been completed on the East-West Road, while 30km had also been completed on the Delta State axis on Section I.
