Mohammed said, “TCN engineers will complete all projects abandoned as well as those that the contractors portrayed lack of capacity. We have terminated the Walalanbe and Danbatta 132/33KV substation projects in Kano State and handed over the implementation to Kaduna transmission Region.”

He said, “With this installation, the capacity has been raised to 220MVA. Similarly, the Apo 132/33kv substation has been raised from 190MVA to 290MVA.”
This system collapse occurred at about 12:11 p.m on the first day of February and all the electricity distribution companies (Discos) have confirmed to have lost power supply from the grid.
He said, “There are certain things that need to be put in place for us to have grid stability and one of them is that we need to put in adequate investment. One of the key investments that we need to do quickly is that we need to build another line between Benin and Omotosho.”

Before now the power that comes from Nigeria was not allowed to mix with power that comes to the West African power pool from other countries such as Ghana and Benin Republic because the frequency doesn’t meet the standard required.
Bello explained that the FCT’s geometric expansion has exceeded all plans and expectations, adding that, “it is very clear even from our data and your records that the way in which the city has been expanding within the last two decades, we are talking of an area with a population running into six million already which is overstretched.”

The Federal Government two weeeks ago approved the secondment of Alhaji Usman Gur Mohammed of the African Development Bank as the interim Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
It also said that his approval was designed to ensure responsiveness to the needs of the generation companies and distribution companies, who are TCN’s customers.
