On the recent fuel supply issues witnessed in some cities across the country, Baru said NNPC had, over the last few months, been engaging with relevant stakeholders to ensure the challenge remains “a thing of the past.”

Nigeria’s refineries operate far below their combined capacity of 445,000 barrels per day due to years of neglect, as well as theft from pipelines and sabotage.

The federal government in November 2017 disclosed that it was considering granting 13 operational licences for modular refineries in the Delta region. It also has, as part of its policy to revive the country’s oil sector, the Seven Big Wins, plans to incentivise the construction of modular refineries in the region.
