23 March 2013, Abuja – The Federal Government says 10 power plants being constructed under the National Integrated Power Project, NIPP, would be coming on stream in the next three months.
Permanent Secretary in the ministry of power, Godknows Igali, made the announcement, Friday, after a meeting of the NIPP board at the Vice President’s wing of the State House.
Igali, in the company of Managing Director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company, James Olotu , Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, told State House Correspondents that distribution, transmission and generation plants would also be commissioned in phases from June this year.
Also, Suswam said: “The power companies would be privatised but after a road show is undertaken to make sure the country gets the best form of businesses. A committee will be set up to Marshall the entire process of privatisation and members of the committee will be unveiled at the next meeting”.
He said some of the power plants which are mostly thermal plants have been completed while some are at different stages of completion.
Power generation in Nigeria peaked at above 4,000 megawatts few months ago as the government continued in its effort to improve on the level of power generation and supply across the country.
