10 September 2012, Sweetcrude, ABUJA—FIFTY-six years after Nigeria’s first commercial oil discovery was made at Oloibiri in Bayelsa State, Bureau for Public Procurement, BPP, and Petroleum Technology Development Fund, PTDF, have finally approved the construction of Oil and Gas Museum in the area.
BPP Director-General, Engr. Emeka Eze, in a letter to the Director-General of PTDF, Due Process Office, reduced the cost quotations for the construction of the Oil and Gas Museum from N36.315 billion to N33.949 billion. The construction work is to be executed by seven firms.
Seven oil and gas companies bidded for and won the contract for the construction of the Oloibiri Oil and Gas Museum.
It will be recalled that to maintain the historic life of the little village, former President Shehu Shagari proposed the construction of the Museum, being the first spot where oil that has brought the Niger Delta region and Nigeria to limelight, was found by Shell Petroleum Development Company in 1956.
