08 August 2012, Sweetcrude, UYO — Work has resumed on the Mobil Workers Exclusive Housing Estate project in Akwa Ibom State which had earlier suffered setback. The developers of the estate have returned to site with a promise to complete the project under 36 months.
The project consultant, Bunmi Ad-Faluyi Construction Nigeria Limited, gave the assurance while presenting traditional items to the chiefs, youths, and stakeholders of the estate, in Ifiayong Esuk, Uruan Local Government Area of the state.
Conceived as a joint partnership investment project promoted by Mobil Workers (Eket) Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited, and a long term partner, Bunmi Ad-Faluyi Construction, the construction work which started with the construction of the first 100 housing unit suffered a setback due to inadequate funds, and delay in the procurement of the necessary documents.
The property to be occupied on a 50-50 sharing arrangement by Mobil employees, is co-funded by Messrs JE Consultants Consortium, UK, and Shelter Afrique, Kenya, with $30 million, and $8.5 million respectively.
Speaking at the re-entry ceremony, the Managing Director of the developing firm, Engr. Bunmi Johson said Uyo is a fast developing capital city and the seat of government of Akwa Ibom State, and that the estate was well-positioned for the benefit of end users.
In their respective speeches at the occasion, the village chiefs of Ifiayong Esuk, Chief Tony Ikpa, and his counterpart of Ifiayong Usuk, Chief Ekpe Asuquo, represented by the village chairman, Pastor Emmanuel Umoh, hailed the developers of the estate for choosing their community for the mega project, and the uncommon faith demonstrated in them.
