johnson sirleaf23 September 2013, Monrovia – Two officials of the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) are expected to retire from the company later next month.

They are the Senior Vice President and VP for Finance, Mrs. Marie E. Leigh-Parker and VP for Corporate Social Relations, Mrs. Ophelia Hoff Saytumah. Their expected retirement came after the Board of Directors of NOCAL acknowledged the resignation of its Chairman Mr. Robert A. Sirleaf. A press release from NOCAL said the board extended “heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Mr. Sirleaf for his immense contributions to NOCAL, its Board and the Country for accomplishing his charge as steward with oversight over implementing ground sweeping reforms in the Petroleum Sector and within NOCAL’s leadership.”

The release said through a recent Board Resolution, the retirement of Mrs. Leigh-Parker and Mrs. Hoff-Saytuman will be taking effect. Signed by its new acting Board Chairman Fred Bass-Golokeh, the NOCAL release said “The Board personally extends its thanks and appreciation to Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Saytumah for their immense contribution to the strengthening of NOCAL over the years.”

According to the board, NOCAL”has greatly benefitted from their knowledge, experience, dedication and loyalty and their contributions will not go unrequited.” “Both retirements will take place effective October 30, 2013,” NOCAL said, pointing out that “Transitional arrangements will be put in place for those who will be taking over their functions to ensure smooth transition into these positions.”

The Board of Directors of NOCAL said it has also received and accepted the resignation of its Vice President for Public Affairs, Mr. Israel Akinsanya who tendered his resignation on Monday, September 16, due to pressing family matters. The Board extended appreciation to Mr. Akinsanya for “his invaluable contribution to NOCAL and wishes him well.” Mr. Cyrus Wleh Badio, the man behind polishing the image of NOCAL, has been appointed as Acting VP for Public Affairs until further notice.

As part of the Reform Process, Cllr. Althea Sherman has been appointed to the position of General Counsel/Chief Operating Officer. Her appointment takes immediate effect, the NOCAL release said.
