power transmitting station22 September 2014, Owerri — Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, has donated electricity transformers of 500 KVA capacities to 11 communities in Imo State, in order to fast track development of the areas through power supply.

According to a statement signed by the lawmaker’s media aide, Mr. Chibuike Onyeukwu, made available to The Guardian in Owerri, the communities are in Aboh Mbaise, Ahiazu Mbaise, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Councils and Owerri Municipal Council.

Ihedioha urged the recipients to guard the electrical equipment well, adding that efforts are ongoing to boost electricity supplies in those areas.

He added that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), controlled Federal Government of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan took the transformation of various sectors serious, leading to the privatisation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), urging Nigerians to have confidence in the “people-oriented” administration.

Ihedioha said about 120 million telephone subscribers have been recorded, describing it as worthwhile.

He appealed to the beneficiaries to pay their bills regularly to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), to avoid disconnection, promising to extend the gesture to more communities in the state.

In his speech, the Vice Chairman of the EEDC, Mr. Kester Enwereonu, said his company would install the transformers without any cost to the communities

A former Council chairman, Mrs. Adeline Asika, thanked the deputy speaker, urging the recipients to reciprocate the gesture by extending their support for Ihedioha in his career.
