Statoil-in-Offshore-Mozambique-Farmout25 September 2014, News Wires – Statoil has been given the green light by Norway’s safety agency to drill a pair of wells targeting additional resources at its Krafla discovery in the North Sea.

The state-run explorer will use semi-submersible Transocean Leader to drill the 30/11-10 exploration well at the Krafla North prospect as well as a sidetrack, 30/11-10 A, to appraise the earlier Krafla Main discovery.

The drilling work, now set to kick off next month after earlier being scheduled for September, will be carried out in a water depth of 104 metres in Statoil-operated production licence 272/035 in the northern North Sea and has an estimated duration of 78 days.

The company holds a 50% operating stake in the licence, with partners Svenska Petroleum and Det Norske Oljeselskapet on 25% apiece.
