06 October 2015, Lagos – The National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, and its Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, SSAEAC, counterpart, yesterday, threatened to shut Egbin, the biggest power plant in the country, over alleged brutaliSation of workers and willful destruction of their property by the management and soldiers.
The two unions, which claimed that the incidents took place on October 2 and 3, called on government and other authorities concerned to intervene and call the management and the soldiers to order before things went out of hand.
In a statement by NUEE’s General Secretary and the Secretary General of SSAEAC, Joe Ajaero and U.A. Dubagari, respectively, the unions condemned what they termed the barbaric and wanton destruction of property, inhuman and degrading treatment meted on their members at the Egbin Power Plant Plc.
The unions called on the federal government to intervene and call the management of Egbin Plant Plc to order before the issue degenerates.
All efforts to speak with the management of the plant, proved abortive.
Several calls put through to Mr. Bethel Obioma, Head, Corporate Communications, Sahara Groups, owners of Egbin Power Plant, were unanswered at press time.
