07 January 2018, Sweetcrude, Lagos — The Eko Electricity Distribution Company, EKEDC, has said it regretted any inconvenience that might have resulted from irregular power supply being experienced by its customers.
In a statement by the firm’s General Manager Corporate Communications, Godwin Idemudia on Sunday, the low performance was as a result of system collapse in the national grid.
The National grid had collapsed last week after a fire breakout which caused a shutdown of gas supply to Egbin 1,320MW; Olorunsogo National Integrated Power Plant (NIPP) 676MW; Olorunsogo 338MW; Omotosho NIPP 450MW; Omotosho 338 MW and Paras 60MW power stations.
“Until Generation goes up, there is nothing we can do now because National Grid (NG) is the only source of our supply.
“We feel your pains.
“We are, therefore, appealing to customers to bear with us, as supply will be restored as soon as these repairs are concluded.
“EKEDC highly regrets any inconveniences caused by this irregular supply,” he said.
The incident was also confirmed by the Ministry of Power, Works, and Housing.
It would be recalled that the national grid had collapsed about this same time last year, causing prolonged power outage across the country.
