15 April 2018, News Wires – Coal shipments from Indonesia, the world’s top thermal coal exporter, declined to 50.78 million tonnes in the first three months of 2018 from 55.73 million tonnes in the same period a year ago, energy ministry data showed
Indonesia’s coal production was also down, falling to 69.33 million tonnes in the first quarter from 74.73 million tonnes in Q1 2017, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry spokesman Agung Pribadi said in a text message
“Perhaps production was down because of weather factors, because it’s still the rainy season,” Pribadi told Reuters, adding that Chinese demand had also declined
The ministry revised its data on domestic coal consumption in the first quarter to 21.94 million tonnes from 20.44 million tonnes earlier, Pribadi said, noting that the initial figure only accounted for thermal coal used in power stations
