Lagos — Statistics from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, show that Nigeria gained eight oil rigs this year.
The data, contained in the group’s December Monthly Oil Market Report, MOMR, for December, indicated the oil rigs were added in November.
As at the first and second quarters of this year, Nigeria had 14 oil rigs, growing to 16 in the second quarter.
In October, the country recorded 18 rig counts, which increased to 20 in November.
Nigeria’s Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, has promised an Increase of the country’s oil production to 3 million barrels per day in 2020, although the country would still be restrained by the ongoing OPEC cuts, which pegs the group’s output at 1.7 million barrels per day, mb/d. The country was producing between 2.2 and 2.4mb/d before the OPEC cuts-started in 2016.
Fields such as Total’s Egina came on stream during the year, adding more to Nigeria’s crude oil output.
