    NERC issues 20 new licenses, renews 3 Q4 2020

    Lagos — Electricity market regulator, NERC said it issued eight new licenses and permits in the fourth quarter of last year.

    This was contained in the newly published fourth quarter report for 2020.

    According to the Commission, during the quarter, after “satisfactory” evaluation, issued three new captive power generation, CPG permits, as well as one new off-grid and two new embedded generation licenses with a total nameplate capacity of 261.70MW.

    During the same period, the Commission approved the issuance of two new independent electricity distribution networks, IEDN.

    This brings the total nameplate capacities of licenses issued and renewed by the Commission during 2020/Q4 to 607.70MW.

    During the same quarter, the Commission approved the certification of six new Meter Service Providers, MSP for manufacturer, importer, vendor and installer categories.

    The Commission also certified three new Meter Assets Providers, MAPs- two for Kaduna, and one for Kano DisCos.

    Thus, the Commission had, as at 31 December 2020, issued permits to thirty-three MAPs, adding that it continued the technical evaluation of fourteen Eligible Customer applications during the third quarter of 2020.

    Also, it approved the renewal of three on-grid generation licenses with a total nameplate capacity of 346MW.
