Port Harcourt — The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has pledged to support the security agencies to fight sea piracy within the waterways in the state and also channel resources into developing coastal communities.
Speaking during his party’s rally in Eket, Eno said rural development was a major component of his economic blueprint, which is christened “Arise Agenda.”
He vowed that when elected in 2023, his administration plans to pay attention to the rural area by renovating, reactivating and building primary healthcare centres across the 329 political wards in the state, among other areas of need.
“For those in the riverine areas, we will establish industries that will help to can your harvests and give you outboard engines and trawlers, and ensure that you no longer get to hire.
“We will continue to work with the Nigerian Navy and provide them with more gunboats to ensure that our waters are safe for our people.
“We will restore our tourism sites in Oron and ensure that we set up ferries that will carry people from Calabar to Oron to boost tourism in Akwa Ibom State,” he said.
The entrepreneur also emphasised that his administration will adopt international development approach by partnering with communities, creating agricultural and ICT hubs for their development.
