Port Harcourt — Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has sought the intervention of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, in restoring oil blocks belonging to the state.
Recall that some oil mining licenses for marginal fields hitherto held by the Bayelsa State government were revoked by the defunct Department of Petroleum Resources (now NUPRC) over the failure of the Bayelsa State to develop the fields after a period of time.
But Governor Diri, during a visit to the Minister, said getting back the oilfields will enhance Nigeria’s oil production capacity as it would add to the current daily crude oil production and also increase  investments in the upstream sector.
Diri described Lokpobiri as a round peg in a round hold, expressing optimism that the Minister will not fail Bayelsa State in his representation on President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
Responding, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, promised to look into revoked oil licenses, emphasizing fairness and equity in resolving State concerns.
Lokpobiri also assured Governor Diri of the willingness of the Tinubu-led government to collaborate with Bayelsa State for mutual progress in energy sector transformation.
