Port Harcourt — In a landmark deal, the Federal Government and Organised Labour have finally agreed to settle for an increment in the national minimum wage from the proposed N62,000 to N70,000.
According to the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, the agreement was reached after intense negotiations between the two parties.
The new wage which would impact on Nigerian workers, is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly for legislation, paving the way for its implementation.
The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, said, “We are happy to announce today that both the Federal Government and Organised Labour have agreed on an increase to the N62,000 Minimum Wage proposal.
“The new National Minimum Wage that we expect President Bola Tinubu to submit to the National Assembly for legislation is N70,000.
“We thank the Organised Labour for their patience, patriotism and support. We also thank the subnational governments, and Organized Private Sector, for their cooperation,” Idris stated.
This development marks a significant victory for Nigerian workers, who have been advocating for a higher minimum wage to combat the exponential economic inflation and rising cost of living in the country.
