Abuja community pleads with govt over power project

power-transmitting-station21 June 2013, Abuja – Mr Samuel Lanto, Head of Shadadi village in Kuje Area Council of FCT, on Friday urged the government to energise the completed power project in the community.

Lanto told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in an interview that government’s efforts in community development would not impact well on the people without the provision of electricity.

He said that residents of the area had made several requests for the government to energise the project which, he noted, was provided through communal effort.

“The Federal Government established the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) as the sole agency vested with the responsibility for planning, designing and developing the city.

“Where government provides services, they must be done properly. The FCDA must ensure that the citizens are living better in terms of social amenities including clinic and schools,” he said.

Lanto noted that since the existence of the community, the residents had never enjoyed electricity, adding that government should intervene urgently to help the people.

He said that the community had done its part by providing poles, cables, transformers and other necessary equipment, and noted that energising the project should not be a problem.

“They have been on this project since last year and it has reached the stage of energising, just to connect it to the national grid,” he said.power-transmitting-station
