    Chevron deepens support for community development

    15 October 2012, Sweetcrude, Warri – Chevron Nigeria Limited, in collaboration with the Itsekiri Regional Development Committe, IRDC has awarded contract for the construction of over 70 housing units, in its bid to assist the people of Itsekiri Community address their housing needs and boost community relations.

    Chairman of the IRDC, Mr Mofe Pirah, made this known to members of the public during the formal Contract Agreement signing ceremony that took place recently at the IRDC Secretariat in Warri.

    He explained that the choice of providing more houses over and above other amenities, was made by all Stakeholders, in view of the housing challenges faced by the riverine Oil and Gas host communities of Delta State.

    He revealed work had started even before the formal signing of the agreement and that machinery had been put in place by a monitoring Committe to ensure that the Contractors who were predominantly Deltans, met the standard specified to them in the construction and that they deliver  in four months time.

    The Chairman warned that the Committee is not prepared to make any variation in the cotract if job delivery is delayed, adding that enough money had been provided to the Contractors.

    According to him, 58 out of 100 Contractors that bidded for the job, came out successful after a rigourous exercise.Also speaking during the occasion, the Chairman of the Project Review Committee, Mr. Ayodele Daniel, while expressing gratitude to Chevron for support, said the IRDC had a delibrate policy of encouraing indigenous Contractors and appealed to them (the Contractors) not to fail the Community, but justify the confidence reposed in them, by delivering high quality jobs and on schedule too.
