25 August, 2011, Sweetcrude, PORT HARCOURT – CHEVRON has flagged off its truck safety campaign at Onne in Rivers state with a call on trucks plying roads in the area to obey traffic rules.
In a message read on his behalf at the flag off, Mr. Femi Odumabo, the General Manager Policy government and public affairs of the company, told the drivers that the campaign was designed to sensitise them on how to reduce pain and incidents on the roads.
He further enjoined the drivers to respect road traffic rules, adding that Chevron would continue to support moved aimed at promoting safe driving in the area and other parts of the country.
Represented by Engr Ngo Kio, the General Manager Policy, government and public affairs explained that the firm was in collaboration with Federal Road Safety Commission and a group, Arrive Alive Road Safety Initiative AARS in the drive to make the nations’ roads safe for all categories of users.
Others who spoke at the sensitisation rally were the Rivers state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr Osas Osadolor, Executive Secretary, AARSI, Ike Okonkwo, representatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Police and the state traffic management agency, TIMARIV.
They all harped on the need for truck drivers and other road users to make the roads safe for all. Adding, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, who was represented by Hon Legborsi Niodadah of Khana constituency 1 lauded the essence of the campaign and also enjoined the drivers to abide by traffic rules.
