Mkpoikana Udoma 04, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHEDC, says it has donated over 700 school bags and other gift items to school children in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers states.

The company said the items contained in the school bags included crayons, pencils, biros among others, and that the donation, made during the 2017 National Children’s Day celebration, was in fulfilment of its Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR.

Speaking in Port Harcourt, the Chief Operating Officer of PHEDC, Engr. Kingsley Achife, said the company would continue to engage in other projects designed to improve the socio-economic growth in the region.

Achife stated that educational development was a focus of the company’s CSR commitments and added: “As a mark of our support for children’s education, PHEDC has deemed it fit to donate over 700 bags with associated writing materials; pencils, crayons and rulers.

“This gesture may not seem much, but be rest assured that it is our desire to support education across the four states of our operations, here in Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.

“We hope that you will receive our little gifts as we look forward to offering greater support and better packages for these children, as we join them in celebrations next year,” Achife said.

Receiving the items on behalf of the children at Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Hon. Damiete Herbert-Miller, commended the management of the company for their contribution in encouraging indigenes of the state through the donation of the gift items.

The commissioner expressed optimism that the company would continue in the discharge of its corporate social responsibilities in the state.
