Port Harcourt — The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has generated N14.7 billion in revenue while inflicting losses worth over N2.5 billion on smugglers, underscoring intensified enforcement and trade compliance efforts.

The Acting Customs Area Controller, Oyo/Osun Command, Wale Adewole, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Ibadan, highlighting a sharp rise in revenue performance and anti-smuggling operations.

According to him, the Command recorded N14,745,741,806.05 within the review period, representing a 46.22 percent increase compared to N10.1 billion generated in the same period of 2025.

He attributed the growth to stricter enforcement and improved compliance mechanisms.

“These seizures were made at different locations across Oyo and Osun States through credible intelligence and coordinated patrol operations,” Adewole said.

Providing details of enforcement activities, he revealed that operatives intercepted a wide range of prohibited and smuggled goods, including 1,603 bags of foreign rice, 123 bales and 18 sacks of used clothing, 88 sacks of used shoes, and 1,351 used tyres.

Other seizures included narcotics such as 1,144 wraps of cannabis sativa, tramadol packs, Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, foreign textiles, sugar, used compressors, vehicles, and other contraband items.

“The total Duty Paid Value of the seized items amounts to Two Billion, Five Hundred and Thirty-One Million, Ninety-One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-Six Naira,” he stated.

Adewole reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the crackdown on smuggling and economic sabotage.

He warned that the Service would not relent in enforcing fiscal policies and safeguarding the economy.

The Customs boss also acknowledged the support of the Comptroller-General, Adewale Adeniyi, alongside traditional rulers, stakeholders, and the media in promoting lawful trade and public awareness.
