Lagos — Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) collected ₦203.61 billion from Nigerian electricity consumers in April 2026, according to the latest commercial performance data released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.
The regulator disclosed in its April 2026 Commercial Performance Factsheet that the 11 DisCos recovered ₦203.61 billion from total customer billings of ₦252.43 billion, resulting in a collection efficiency of 80.66 per cent, an improvement of 1.07 percentage points compared to the previous month.
According to NERC, electricity supplied to the distribution companies during the month was valued at ₦302.96 billion, while customers were billed ₦252.43 billion. This translated to a billing efficiency of 83.32 per cent, representing a slight decline of 0.57 percentage points from March.
The commission also reported that the electricity market recorded a revenue recovery efficiency of 82.11 per cent, with the average actual collection standing at ₦102.13 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) against the approved average tariff of ₦124.39/kWh.
Among the distribution companies, Eko Electricity Distribution Company recorded the strongest performance with a revenue recovery efficiency of 102.09 per cent, followed by Abuja Electricity Distribution Company at 89.77 per cent and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company at 88.89 per cent.
NERC said the three DisCos emerged as the industry’s best performers in April, recording the highest levels of revenue recovery despite persistent operational and commercial challenges across the power distribution segment.
The latest figures provide an indication of improving revenue collection by electricity distributors, although the gap between the value of electricity supplied, customer billings and actual collections continues to highlight the financial challenges facing Nigeria’s power sector.
