Port Harcourt — Edo State has secured a strategic partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC Limited, for the establishment of a 10,000 barrels per day condensate refinery, marking a major boost to domestic refining capacity and downstream investment in the South-South region.

Governor Monday Okpebholo disclosed this after receiving the management of NNPC Limited, led by its Executive Vice President, Downstream, Alhaji Mumuni Dagazia, in Benin City.

According to the Governor, the refinery will be located across Oredo and Orhionmwon Local Government Areas and is expected to be completed within 24 to 36 months.

“We have confirmed plans to partner with NNPC Limited on the establishment of a 10,000 barrels per day condensate refinery in Edo State,” Okpebholo said.

He explained that the project is designed to strengthen regional fuel supply, reduce logistics costs and stimulate industrial growth.

“When operational, the refinery will supply fuel to Edo and neighbouring states, create jobs, support industrial growth and contribute meaningfully to poverty reduction,” the Governor stated.

Okpebholo assured that his administration is fully aligned with the project and will provide the enabling environment required for its timely execution.

“My administration is fully committed to this project. We will ensure land security and provide all necessary support to guarantee its success,” he said.

He added that the refinery aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in expanding domestic refining capacity, attracting private capital and deepening value addition in Nigeria’s energy sector.

“This partnership is in line with our vision to position Edo State as a hub for energy, investment and economic development,” the Governor noted.

The proposed condensate refinery is expected to enhance downstream efficiency, support Nigeria’s energy security objectives and further reduce reliance on imported petroleum products, as states increasingly attract energy infrastructure investments.
