    EEDC seeks collaboration with EFCC over energy theft, vandalism

    Port Harcourt — The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, has sought for collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in tackling economic sabotage including energy theft and vandalization of electricity infrastructures within its franchise states.

    Enugu Electricity Distribution Company operates in Abia, Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu States.

    This was the tone of discussion when the Acting Zonal Director of the Enugu Zonal Command of the EFCC, Mohammed Shaib Bello, visited the Managing Director of EEDC, Praveen Chorghade in Enugu.

    Speaking, the Managing Director of EEDC, Praveen Chorghade, particularly sought assistance from the EFCC in tackling non-payment of electricity bills, theft and vandalization of infrastructures in Enugu State.

    Chorghade acknowledged the critical roles the Commission was playing in reflating the country’s economy, adding that vandalization of electricity infrastructures was an economic crime that was becoming prevalent.

    “EEDC is faced with several challenges ranging from electricity theft, non-payment of electricity bills, stealing of electricity cables, attack on personnel on field duties and vandalization of electricity infrastructures,’ Chorghade lamented.

    Responding, the Acting Zonal Director of the Enugu Zonal Command of the EFCC, Mohammed Shaib Bello, said the purpose of the visit was to partner with the EEDC in fighting economic sabotage in the state.

    Bello assured Chorghade of the EFCC’s unalloyed support in tackling non-payment of electricity bills and vandalization of infrastructures in the state.

    He said, “There is need for collaboration between us (EFCC and EEDC) in order to put a stop to this nonsense.”
