Port Harcourt — A renowned ex-agitator in the Niger Delta, High Chief Solomon Ndigbara, in collaboration with the Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre, YEAC-Nigeria, has donated books and other educational materials to public secondary schools in Rivers State.
Ndigbara, who was the first warlord to embrace the Presidential Amnesty Programme back in 2009, said the donation was to support and contribute to the education of the younger generation, and to promote peace in the society.
Donating the books to Birabi Memorial Grammar School, Bori and Bua-Yeghe Community Secondary School, Gokana, the ex-agitator assured that he will continue to donate more educational materials to schools in Ogoniland. According to him, production of more books was underway for onward distribution to more schools across Rivers State.
He charged the students to make judicious use of the educational materials which include thousands of exercise books and biros, and urged them to conduct themselves peacefully in school, at home and in the society, in order to promote peace and security.
“This donation of books to schools will continue to other schools in Tai and Eleme Local Government Areas in this first phase and we will extend it to other schools outside Ogoniland in the second phase,” he said.
Also, the Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre admonished the students to be peaceful and take their studies seriously in order to attract more donations from organisations and good spirited members of the public.
Executive Director of YEAC Nigeria, Mr Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, said the group already was carrying out senistization campaigns on human rights, environment, climate change, cultism, drug abuse and other organized crimes for students across Rivers State.
Receiving the educational materials, the Principal of Junior Secondary, BMGS, Mr. Bana-Agor Nuka, applauded the ex-agitator and his team for the donation and expressed optimism that more would come considering the population of the school, which he said has over 7,000 students.
Nuka assured of equitable distribution of the educational materials to the students, who he said would use them judiciously in support of their education.
Also, the country representative of International Association of World Peace Advocates, Dr. Steven King, lauded the ex-agitator for chosing the fourth Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, ‘quality education’ as his focus area and vision.
