09 July 2012, Sweetcrude, WARRI —NO fewer than 115 workers of Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, who were seconded to NECONDE Energy Limited after Shell divested its interest in OML 42, protested their sack, non-payment of salaries and alleged unjust treatment by the company.
Addressing reporters in Warri, Delta State, counsel to the workers, Mr Rufus Olarenwaju, said the treatment meted out to the workers by the company run countary to the terms of the purchase/sales agreement on OML 42 with a daily production of 350,000 barrels of crude oil.
He said NECONDE Energy Limited, a consortium of five companies acquired OML 42, which covers Jones Creek, Egwa I, Egwa 2, Odidi 1, Odidi 2, and Batan field, but by a letter, dated March 1, 2012, terminated the employment of the workers, after it allegedly dissuaded National Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, which applied to take over the operation of the OML from retaining the workers.
