    FG releases $3.7bn for power sector, targets 20,000mw

    Namadi-Sambo 106 May 2013, Abuja – The Federal Government has said efforts were on to wh eel about 20,000 megawatts of electricity for the country to improve power transmission.

    Vice-President Namadi Sambo made the assertion, Sunday, in Toronto, Canada, during a meeting with members of the Nigerian-Canadian Association.

    A statement by the spokesman for the vice-president, Mr. Umar Sani, quoted Sambo as disclosing that the Federal Government last week approved the release of $3.7 billion to the power sector in order to achieve the purpose.

    Said Sambo: “The Federal Government last week approved the sum of $3.7bn to improve power transmission so as to wheel 20,000mw”.

    According to the vice president, efforts were being intensified in the areas of power supply, transportation, aviation, Information and Communication Technology, agriculture and the provision of affordable healthcare services as he urged Nigerians in the Diaspora to return to the country and partake in the development.

    President of the Nigerian-Canadian Association, Mr. Fabian Nwoha, had earlier expressed the desire of the body to contribute positively to the country’s development, but maintained that members were holding back due to the reported negative incidences and other vices in Nigeria.
