    – Warns against fake news

Port Harcourt — Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied any links to militant groups, dismissing viral social media videos alleging explosions at oil and gas facilities in the state.

Recall that there has been incessant recirculation of old videos and fake news about oil and gas facilities’ explosion in Rivers State within the last one week, amidst the heightened political tension in the state.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the governor described the videos as “malicious, fake, and imaginary,” aimed at creating tension and linking his supporters to criminal activities.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal elements anywhere in the state or Niger Delta to undertake actions inimical to peace,” the statement read.

Governor Fubara emphasized that his priority remains the security and stability of Rivers State, warning individuals trying to exploit the ongoing political crisis to foment unrest.

“The Governor has repeatedly made it clear at every public event that the peace of the State is paramount to him, and that he would pay any price to secure and sustain peace, as it is only in an atmosphere of peace and security that governance and development can thrive,” Chukwudi added.

He also cautioned bloggers and social media users against spreading fake news, stating that their actions could lead to unnecessary panic and instability.

“It is important to warn social media hirelings to stop their campaign of tension, chaos, and anarchy. Their fake reports in the last couple of days have triggered enough wrong decisions that do not help the state move forward,” the statement warned.

Governor Fubara called on security agencies to investigate and contain the spread of misinformation, urging them to bring those behind the fake videos to justice.
