18 June 2012, Sweetcrude, UGHELLI – THE Niger Delta Youth Movement, NDYM, has warned against the sale of Utorogu Gas Plant in Otu-Jeremi in Ughelli South Local Government Area and Erhoike Oil Field in Kokori/Orogun in Ethiope East and Ughelli North Local Government areas of Delta State.

The youths in a statement at the weekend by Mr. Godspower Odenema said: “Our attention had been drawn to a clandestine scheme to sell Utorogu Gas Plant in Otu-Jeremi in Ughelli South Local Government Area and Erhoike Oil Field in Kokori/Orogun in Ethiope East and Ughelli North Local Government areas respectively all in Delta State, to private individuals.

“These two facilities in the Niger Delta are quite unique. The Utorogu Gas Plant is the largest of its kind in West Africa and the seventh largest in the world while the Erhioke Oil Field is one of the very few Oil Fields in the world that produces the best crude oil (Brent or Sweet crude).

“In 2010, the National Assembly passed the Nigerian Content Act into law. By the provisions of this law, the immediate local communities are to be consulted in any major decision concerning any oil facility located on their land.”
