Port Harcourt — The Ibeto Seaport and Terminals Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has exceeded its first-quarter 2026 revenue target by N1.69 billion, signalling improved compliance and operational efficiency within Nigeria’s maritime trade ecosystem.
The Command generated a total of N6.23 billion between January and March, surpassing its quarterly target of N4.54 billion by 37 percent, according to an official statement issued issued by the NCS, Ibeto seaport command.
Breaking down the performance, January recorded N1.85 billion, exceeding its target by 22 percent, while February brought in N1.63 billion, an 8 percent increase above projections. The most significant surge came in March, with revenue hitting N2.75 billion, an 82 percent jump over the monthly target.
Customs Area Controller, Ibeto seaport, Comptroller Usman Yahaya, attributed the strong showing to enhanced compliance and reforms within the Service.
“This remarkable performance reflects the collective dedication of our officers and the growing cooperation of our stakeholders.
“With the strategic reforms introduced by the Comptroller-General of Customs, we are witnessing improved compliance and more efficient revenue collection processes,” Yahaya said.
He added that the Command remains focused on sustaining the momentum through stricter enforcement and trade facilitation.
“Our focus remains on strengthening compliance, enhancing transparency in our operations, and ensuring that the Command continues to contribute meaningfully to national revenue while facilitating legitimate trade,” he stated.
The Command also credited its success to improved cargo assessment, proper classification, and streamlined operational procedures, alongside increased stakeholder engagement with importers, clearing agents, and terminal operators.
The performance underscores a broader push by the Customs Service to boost non-oil revenue, tighten regulatory compliance, and enhance efficiency across Nigeria’s ports, key to supporting fiscal stability and trade competitiveness.
