Uyo — Ibom Developers FZE has committed N5 million towards the resuscitation of electricity supply in Obohia Ndoki Community, Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State, as the company deepens its engagement with its host community.
The intervention was formally acknowledged during a community engagement in Obohia Ndoki, where community leaders and youth representatives said the return of electricity would provide relief to households and businesses and support local economic activities.
The Eze of Obohia Ndoki, Chief Ugochukwu John Nduwuisi, described the funding as a demonstration of the company’s responsiveness to community concerns.
“We are grateful to Ibom Developers FZE for fulfilling its promise to Obohia Ndoki. The release of N5 million towards the resuscitation of electricity is not just financial support; it is a demonstration that the company listens to the concerns of the people and is willing to work with the community to address them,” he said.
Nduwuisi said reliable electricity was important to the development of the community, noting its impact on businesses and everyday life.
He urged Ibom Developers to sustain its engagement with the community and support other priority development needs.
President of the Obohia Ndoki Youth Council, Comrade Allwell George, also commended the intervention, saying electricity would have wider implications for young people and economic activity.
“Electricity is more than just light. It creates opportunities. It supports businesses, improves security, enables learning and gives our young people a better environment to pursue their dreams,” George said.
He called for continued dialogue between the company and the community, while assuring Ibom Developers of the youths’ support for initiatives that promote peace and development.
Representing the company, its Community Development Programme Manager, Grace Inyang, said the intervention reflected Ibom Developers’ approach of responding to identified community needs with practical support.
She said the company was committed to maintaining constructive relationships with Obohia Ndoki and other communities within its area of operation.
“The electricity intervention reflects our approach to community engagement, which places emphasis on identifying genuine community needs and supporting interventions capable of producing tangible benefits,” Inyang said.
She stressed the importance of collaboration and sustained communication between the company and its host communities in delivering lasting development outcomes.
Also speaking, Mbibichirizi Hyacinth Iheanacho, representing Umulu Compound, said the intervention would bring relief to households and businesses affected by the absence of electricity.
He described the support as an encouraging example of cooperation between the community and development-oriented organisations.
The community also acknowledged Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Limited, SEEPCO, for supporting its affiliates in expediting development activities, including recent support to Ohanso, Ndoki, in Ukwa East.
Ibom Developers FZE, a subsidiary of SEEPCO, said it would continue to engage responsibly with stakeholders and explore opportunities to support community development within available resources and agreed frameworks.
The intervention is expected to improve conditions for small businesses, education, domestic activities and other aspects of daily life in Obohia Ndoki, while reinforcing the company’s relationship with the community
