26 August 2012, Sweetcrude, KADUNA – THE Kaduna State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with a German company, Helios Energy Limited, for the generation of 30 megawatts of solar power.

Signed under the Nigerian-German Energy Partnership, the German company will under the MoU, spend about 50 million Euros to build a solar energy plant in Kaduna.

The Kaduna State government will provide about 60 hectares of land for the construction of the plant, which will be conducted under the build, operate arrangement.

The agreement with Helios Energy will run for 25 years and will see the German company train Kaduan indigenes in Germany to operate the facility when completed.

Kaduna State governor Patrick Yakowa, who spoke after signing the MoU, said the 30 megawatts of power will boost socio-economic activities in the state and strengthening his administration’s tripartite focus on security, unity and development.

He maintained that his administration will continue to explore more ways of complementing the current source of power supply so that the industrial sector will flourish in the state.

Coordinator of the Nigerian-German Energy Partnership, Dr. Jeremy Gaines, signed the MoU on behalf of the German company, saying the partnership was aimed at boosting economic activities and attract foreign investment to the state.

A delegation from the German company will be in Kaduna in October to inspect the project site, he stated.
