Port Harcourt — Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has emphasised the urgent need for continuous dialogue and synergy among stakeholders in the country’s upstream oil and gas sector, saying it is key to achieving sustainable growth and mutual benefit.
In a statement shared via his official handle on X, Lokpobiri disclosed that he met with representatives of the Independent Petroleum Producers Group, IPPG, the Oil Producers Trade Section, OPTS, and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, where he reiterated the government’s commitment to stakeholder engagement.
“In driving the oil sector toward sustainable growth, the synergy between our agencies and key industry players must be consistently nurtured, as it remains vital to securing mutual benefits for all,” Lokpobiri stated.
The meeting, which focused on emerging issues affecting the oil and gas industry, was described by the Minister as “robust and forward-looking,” with participants agreeing on the importance of collaboration in addressing sectoral challenges.
“I emphasized the importance of maintaining this spirit of cooperation, particularly in light of ongoing discussions around issues that have implications on the industry,” he noted.
Lokpobiri further underscored the value of dialogue in navigating industry reforms and policy adjustments: “With our deliberations robust and forward-looking, I highlighted the need for sustained understanding among all stakeholders, as only through constructive dialogue can we resolve issues pragmatically.”
The statement comes amid renewed calls from oil producers for improved regulatory clarity, fiscal stability, and infrastructure development, following recent shifts in global energy dynamics and Nigeria’s internal market challenges.
