29 December 2011, Sweetcrude, LAGOS – A Navy Captain (names withheld) has been arrested over the escape of a vessel, M.T.Beaver, arrested earlier this month for carrying stolen crude oil.

The captain, Sweetcrude gathered, also doubles as a maritime guard cammander of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

He has been in detention since December 3.

It was gathered that the captain was directed to arrest the vessel, a directive he complied with and handed over the crew and vessel to NIMASA officials.

NIMASA’s management, however, refuted the claim, saying the maritime agency did not have the power to detain any arrested vessel.

It was learnt that after the arrest and detention of the vessel, it mysteriously disappeared from where it was berted.
