Lagos — As part of its ongoing capacity-building initiatives, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, has successfully renovated four staff quarters and their accompanying boys’ quarters at the Government Science and Technical College, GSTC, Ogbowo, Benin City, Edo State.
The newly renovated quarters are equipped with modern amenities, including a 22,000-litre water storage facility, to enhance the living conditions of teachers in the institution.
Representing the Executive Secretary of the Board, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the Director of Capacity Building, Mr. Abayomi Bamidele, reaffirmed NCDMB’s unwavering commitment to human capacity development and its strategic interventions in the infrastructure of technical and vocational education institutions across the nation.
“We recognize that a teacher preoccupied with issues such as a leaking roof, poor sanitation, or a dilapidated living space cannot perform at their optimal best. To get the best from our teachers, we must invest in their well being beyond the classroom,” he stated.
He further emphasized that the renovation stands as a testament to the Board’s dedication to creating conducive and dignified living and working environments for teachers and individuals who play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s future.
Mr. Bamidele outlined that the rehabilitation project entailed a comprehensive upgrade and revitalization effort, which included the renovation and furnishing of four units of teachers’ apartments; rehabilitation of each unit’s boys’ quarters; provision of portable water and reticulation system; landscaping to enhance the aesthetic and functional appeal of the environment. Each component, he noted, was meticulously executed to ensure comfort, functionality, and sustainability.
“More than just bricks and mortar, this project symbolizes respect for the teaching profession and a renewed focus on strengthening educational infrastructure,” he concluded.
The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo who was represented by the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Board of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Barr. Onome Briggs, commended Engr. Ogbe for the timely completion of the project. She also presented a Letter of Appreciation on behalf of the Edo State Government to NCDMB for its laudable intervention.
In his remarks, the Executive Principal of GSTC, Mr. Friday Ezodome, expressed profound gratitude to NCDMB for its commitment to capacity building and educational development.
“The demand of today’s global economy is skill-based, and this project resonates strongly with the vision and mission of our school,” he stated.
The commissioning event also featured a vibrant cultural performance by the students, showcasing the rich heritage of Benin culture, which delighted the audience. In attendance were Mr. Dokubo Obongo,Manager institutional Strengthening, Capacity Building Directorate; Mr. Nyoki Ita Supervisor, Corporate Communications, Mr. Fumi Ojo supervisor Zonal coordination, Mr. Egoli Ebikombo-owei officer Corporate communication, Mr. Edesemi Lokpobiri Officer Audit and other officials of the Board.
