    NCDMB, SON collaborate on certification of oil & gas equipment

    Port Harcourt — The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board would collaborate with the Standards Organization of Nigeria, over a uniform standard for certification of locally manufactured equipment, materials, products and goods used in the oil and gas industry.

    This was made known when the management staff of NCDMB led by the Executive Secretary, Engr. Simbi Wabote, paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of SON, Mallam Farouk Salim, in Abuja on Tuesday.

    Wabote said the purpose of the visit by NCDMB to SON was to address the challenges in setting a uniform standards for locally produced equipment, materials, products and goods that are generally acceptable by all players in the Industry.

    He expressed optimism that the collaboration will chart a new course for the development of Nigerian Content, particularly in the area of setting a uniform standards for locally manufactured equipment, materials, products, goods and services utilized in the Oil and Gas Industry.

    The main focus of the collaboration with SON, according to Wabote, will be in four key areas, namely, “Certification of equipment, materials, products, goods and services utilized in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry.

    “Set-up a uniform standards for locally manufactured equipment, materials, products and goods that are generally acceptable by all players in the Industry.

    “Improvement in measurement accuracies for locally produced equipment, materials, products, goods and services.

    “Circulation of information relating to standards in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry,” the NCDMB boss said.

    Responding, the Managing Director of SON, Mallam Farouk Salim, promised to work closely with the Board to achieve the purpose of the collaboration.

    Salim also agreed to establish a working committee between NCDMB and SON as soon as possible, and train NCDMB staff to further strengthen and build a cordial relationship between the two agencies of government.
