Lagos — The chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, Prof. James Momoh, has advised the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, and other electricity distribution companies or Discos in the country to make creative use of franchising and embedded regulation to expand electricity access to remote locations within their coverage areas.
Momoh gave the advice during a working visit to AEDC.
According to him, extending electricity access to remote areas would eradicate load rejection as there would be more customers to buy electricity produced by the generation companies, drive in more funds to the industry, make electricity available to more people thereby bridging the electricity deficiency gap.
The NERC chairman also advised the Discos to address other issues such as consumer education, human capacity development, and cyber-protection for new equipment that are susceptible to cyber-attacks.
