Port Harcourt — The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has called on energy journalists to intensify reporting that educates electricity consumers and supports ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s power sector.
Chairman of NERC, Musiliu Oseni, made the call on Monday while receiving members of the Power Correspondents Association of Nigeria, PCAN, during a courtesy visit.
Oseni stressed that the media plays a critical role in shaping public understanding of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, NESI, noting that accurate and informed reporting is key to reform success.
“Informed media coverage is vital to securing public support for ongoing reforms within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry,” he said.
He urged specialised reporters to leverage their access to industry data and stakeholders to improve the quality of reporting and bridge the information gap between regulators and electricity consumers.
Responding, PCAN Chairman, Obas Esiedesa, commended NERC for improving transparency, particularly through digital data sharing initiatives.
He also reaffirmed the association’s commitment to strengthening the depth, accuracy, and impact of power sector journalism.
