26 August 2011, Sweetcrude, Abuja – The Nigerian government says it is aiming to transform the country into one of the world’s biggest exporters of petroleum products.
Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr Olusegun Aganga, made this known when a delegation of Taiwanese businessmen led by Mr Fu-Tien Liu visited him in his office in Abuja.
“It doesn’t make sense that we export the crude and import the petroleum products. It does not make sense that we export all the gas and yet we don’t have all the products,” he said.
Aganga told the businessmen that there were a lot of opportunities and potential in the country and urged them to see how they could explore them.
He said both countries had come a long way in promoting their relations and that Nigeria would want to increase its trade relations with Taiwan.
He added: “We welcome investors in power, refineries, fertiliser plants, mining and so on. We will also make sure we work with you. I will ask my director to sit down with you and see how we can achieve a lot within three years”.
Earlier, Fu-Tien had said that they were in Nigeria to explore possible areas they could assist Nigeria in growing its economy.
He called for increased trade relations between the two countries, and invited Aganga to visit his country to explore areas where Nigeria could partner his country.
