Yenegoa — Nigeria is set to diversify its power sector, with plans to expand its energy mix to ensure a more efficient and sustainable electricity supply, according to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
Adelabu at the ongoing 13th Practical Nigerian Content Forum at the Nigerian Content Tower in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, emphasized the President Bola Tinubu-led government’s commitment to diversifying energy sources as a crucial step toward strengthening Nigeria’s power sector.
The Minister represented by Abubakar Haruna, Acting Director, Investment and Sector Development at the Federal Ministry of Power, noted that renewable energy, natural gas, mini-grid, and other alternative sources would play a pivotal role in this diversification effort.
“By diversifying our energy sources, we are not only improving efficiency but also ensuring the sustainability of our power infrastructure for future generations. This is an essential part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on reliable and stable power as the backbone of our nation’s development.
“A diversified energy mix will make our power sector more resilient, reduce dependency on a single source, and cater to the growing energy demands of Nigerians,” Haruna added.
He also stressed the importance of local content in the energy transition, and further linked power sector diversification to broader economic goals.
“This diversification will open up significant opportunities for Nigerian engineers, manufacturers, and local businesses to participate in the energy sector. It’s not just about power; it’s about empowering Nigerians.
“Stable power grids are essential for supporting our oil and gas infrastructure, as well as other critical industries. With reliable power, we can accelerate economic growth and better position Nigeria in the global energy market.”
Earlier, the Acting Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, expressed pleasure in welcoming all delegates and stakeholders to the 13th Practical Nigerian Content Forum.
Adding that “We are delighted to host you once again for this significant event, which underscores our collective commitment to advancing Nigerian content development.”
He acknowledged the exemplary contributions of the Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, whose dedication and leadership continue to drive the Board’s impactful initiatives.
“Bayelsa State remains steadfast in its partnership with the NCDMB, as this collaboration aligns seamlessly with our Assured Prosperity Agenda. We are committed to creating a more secure and peaceful environment to attract additional investors and foster sustainable economic growth in the state.
“As we proceed with this important discussion, our goal is to set achievable targets and evaluate our successes over time. Together, we believe we can define a better landscape for Nigerian content, forging new frontiers that will serve as a foundation for future progress.”
In addition, he said that strategies in Bayelsa were inclusive and designed to benefit all Nigerians.
